Can you believe it, with the coming of the 1st August the wind started, and did it blow. August winds are here. Then, just as we thought the cold weather had left, the temperature gauge on my car reflected a drop to less than three degrees. Brrrr it is freezing while I am writing this newsletter.

August is traditionally woman’s month and the club decided to recognise all our ladies by presenting each lady player with a scrumptious biscuit on the weekend of the 9th of the month.

Our charity drive has ended and what a success it was. We thank all our members who donated food and clothes and also cash to this initiative. We are in the process of calculating how much cash was collected and as soon as this has been finalised, we will pay the cash to the Cradle of Hope and will also let everyone know what the amount was. Three loads of goodies were delivered to the Cradle already.

Most of the work on the bunkers has ended and our bunkers are certainly looking good right now. There is still a lot of mixed feelings about the water feature in front of the 5th green, but we should wait until it is completed and then we can make comments about it.

So far this month I know of two holes-in-one at our club. Retha White had one on the 4th hole and Greg Park had one on the 6th hole. He was playing league at the time and his opponent managed to birdie and half the hole.

The lady captain will be having her captain’s prize on the 20th August and the men’s captains prize will be a week later on the 27th. The lady’s competition will be an individual medal and the men will be playing a 36-hole comp on the day with the morning being betterball stableford and the afternoon will be foursomes.

The handicap league side finished off the season with an amazing 7-1 victory over Heron Banks but unfortunately the other results did not fall our way and relegation was not avoided. So next season our handicap league side will be playing in the C Division. Better luck next time guys.

Happy birthday to all our members who celebrate their special days during the month of August. I notice that a number of members are reaching the sixty milestone, well done guys. Welcome to the land of pensioner’s discount.
