Yes, the Ides of March have come and gone and what a busy month March was. We had ladies and men’s club champs and the Souties versus the Dutchies and of course the AGM. A great month, it was indeed.
Firstly, on the weekend of the 6th March the Ladies had their club championships. I must say the ladies committee went all out to make it a success for the participants and it was a bit sad to see that the turnout was poor but maybe next year the bulk will pitch up. The full results are on the website under the Club Champs tab but congratulations to all the prize winners and especially the division winners. A special word of congratulations must go out to Megan Van Heerden who participated in her very first championships. Here are some pics of some of the fourballs.
The following weekend, 13th March, the men held their Club Championships and guess what, no rain to spoil the weekend. Everything went off as smooth as can be. An extra word of congratulations must go out to Derek and his staff, greens staff and office staff for the extra effort that went into the preparation. The entire affair was awesome and the vibe in the club over the weekend was extra special. Hannes Strooh was the overall champion. All the results and pics are available on the Club Champs tab.
I must just tell you that I had the pleasure of playing with a gentleman of note. This young fellow was playing in his 64th club champs and on Sunday he shot an 84, missing a putt on the last hole to shoot his age on championship weekend. Well done Stan, you are a scholar and a gentleman sir.
The AGM was held on the 18th March and went off without a hitch. The new committee elected is as follows:
President – Billy Pollock
Club Captain – Gregg White
Committee Members: Grant Syme
Then on Saturday 20th March the Dutchies took on the Souties. The format was betterball stableford and then we added all the scores together to decide the eventual winner. The Souties managed to pull it off winning by seven points, 500 plays 507. The next episode in this saga will take place in winter, possibly 12th June and then a final towards the end of the year. The format for each event will be different. I must thank Rusty for the braai on the day, everything was very well organised and enjoyed by all.
A few of the leagues have already started and by next month they will all be under way and then I will place all the league sides progress on the site.
I got sent this piece from a lady member and would like to thank her very much for it. There are two concerns regarding course care that we as players are responsible for, namely, pitch marks and bunkers not being raked. Our rakes are being sanitised with a sanitiser that lasts for 30 days so the rakes should be safe for all to use. By fixing your pitch mark and two others on the greens will not only assist with the recovery time of the pitch mark but will leave a smoother putting surface to play on. The following course care tips should be adhered to:
- Fill your divots; sandbags are compulsory.
- Repair your pitch mark plus two other pitch marks as well.
- Do not litter on the course.
- Dispose of your cigarette butts in the dustbins available; do not leave them on the course, especially not the greens.
- Rake the bunkers by either using the sanitised rakes or by using your own Eazi-Rake.
With effect from April month every third Saturday will be a medal competition for the men and will be known as the monthly medal. An eclectic will also be run, and an eventual annual winner will be decided.
Happy birthday to all the members who celebrated their birthday during the month of March, hope you had a fantastic day.
