What an extremely busy October we had at the club, recording a record month for the year. Every weekend had one or other function on the go. We even had to change the Captain’s Draw to a Saturday due to the Friday’s taken over by golf days. I think this might have been a first for the club and it seems as if it went down very well. The Hole in One Restaurant prepared a roast, at a particularly good R70 per plate, for the members and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The turnout was very good, and we gave away some good bucks for the lucky draw. Unfortunately, the main draw nor the Joker draw was won, and both will increase substantially for the November draw. Do not forget that the November draw will also include all the auctions for the tee times and the parking spot. So, make sure you are there. Mark Belling will be providing the live entertainment.

I hope by now all of you have noticed that our course has new tee markers. These are looking great and are much better than those old ones that were quite dilapidated, I am afraid. The old markers will all be removed in the near future. Someone told me the new stones look like gravestones and are made by AVBOB, very funny. LOL. You will notice that the new markers do not have the stroke of the hole on them and the reason for that, is that if we re-stroke the course sometime in the future we do not have to spend more money on new markers.

We also had a lot of rain during the month in noticeably short periods and the 7th fairway looked like this at one stage. The dam on our signature hole also filled up by quite a lot.

Early on in the month we had the Boere vs Souties and believe it or not the Boere managed to win by 4 points, 22 – 18. This was the first time since early 2019. Well done guys. It was a wonderful day and the braai provided by the halfway house went down very well. A huge thank you goes out to Tertius Janse Van Rensburg and Andre Steenkamp who gave generous donations to the cost of the braai.

The Ladies section organised a Mixed Open at the end of the month with a Christmas theme and each participant had to bring a children’s toy along as part of the payment for the game. This event was extremely well supported and also very well organised. A huge congratulations to the organisers, very well done. When the word gets out about this mixed open, more and more golfers will want to come join us at our great club.

Ten of our members went to play against Germiston Golf Club in the Far East vs Wild West trophy. This was a return match after we beat them at our club earlier in the year. Once again, we managed to secure the trophy by winning 5-2. Cool.

Thanks to all the members who participated in the breast cancer awareness day arranged by the lady’s section.

Darin De Smidt is back. The youngest De Smidt played in his first scratch league game in a long time and managed to beat his opponent 5/4. Hopefully this a good sign for next years scratch league side. We beat Jackal Creek by 6 games to 2, fantastic stuff. This win also secured our place in the C-Division and now we can start working our way back to the A-Division where we belong.

An era has come to an end. The Ladies Western Gauteng League has been suspended. The 2022 season ended in a tie between Goldfields, Ruimsig and Krugersdorp and it was decided to share the trophy three ways. The players will be awarded with their certificates in the near future. Sadly, it was decided to suspend the league for now and maybe in the future it will be revived again.

There were two holes-in-one at the end of September, congratulations.

Please look out for a new competition on the first Saturday of December. The President’s team will be taking on the Captain’s team. If you want to play in the President’s team, make sure your book your fourball off the first tee and the Captain’s team off the tenth tee. If you are off the 1st tee you must please wear black pants with a white shirt and the 10th tee players must wear grey pants with a blue shirt.

Congratulations to all our members who celebrate their birthdays during the month of November.
